05:55 PM EDT, 10/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- NextEra Energy ( NEE ) said late Monday it entered multiple agreements with Alphabet's (GOOG/GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) to speed up nuclear energy deployment to match rising energy demand from artificial intelligence advancements.
The deal focuses on restarting the 615 megawatt Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa. Under a 25-year power purchase agreement, Google ( GOOG ) will source energy from the plant to power its growing cloud and AI infrastructure in the state. The nuclear facility is expected to be fully operational in Q1 2029, according to a statement.
Central Iowa Power Cooperative will buy any remaining portion of the Duane plant output.
NextEra Energy ( NEE ) has acquired CIPCO and Corn Belt Power Cooperative's combined 30% interest in the plant, the company said.
NextEra Energy ( NEE ) and Google ( GOOG ) have also signed an agreement to explore new nuclear generation development to be deployed in the US to help power electricity requirements in the US, according to the company.
