05:59 PM EDT, 08/12/2026 (MT Newswires) -- NextEra Energy ( NEE/PW ) said late Wednesday it entered an agreement with the US Department of Commerce and the Government of Japan to fund the development and operation of up to 10 gigawatts of natural gas-powered generation in Texas and Pennsylvania.

The milestone, following approval of projects selected with Japan's $550 billion commitment to the US, releases the first tranche of funding for the development of the two energy hubs, according to a statement.

The projects are expected to create construction jobs and permanent operating positions across both states, as well as drive local investment through equipment procurement, according to the company.

Initial project resources are expected to come online by the end of 2028, and both projects are expected to be completed in 2032, the company said.
