NextEra Energy Unit Tasked to Negotiate Electricity Project for Department of Energy's Waste Isolation Pilot Plant

10:50 AM EDT, 09/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- NextEra Energy's (NEE) NextEra Energy Resources Development unit has been tasked by the US Department of Energy to negotiate a carbon-pollution-free electricity generation project at the DoE's waste isolation pilot plant in New Mexico, the DoE's Office of Environmental Management said Tuesday.

Financial details weren't disclosed.

According to the DoE, NextEra Energy Resources Development can negotiate a realty agreement to deploy carbon pollution-free electricity of at least 150 megawatts, with a 100-megawatt storage system, at the plant.

NextEra Energy did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for a comment.
