09:55 AM EDT, 03/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- NextEra Energy's (NEE) Florida Power & Light unit said Wednesday it has asked the Florida Public Service Commission to approve its request to lower rates for customers beginning in May due to lower fuel prices.
Rates were already scheduled to decrease in April when rates will be $7 lower for a typical 1,000-kWh customer because of the removal of a surcharge to cover repair damages caused by previous hurricanes, FP&L said.
If regulators approve the latest request, a typical 1,000-kWh residential customer bill would be more than $14 lower in May than it is currently, the utility said.
NextEra Energy shares up 4.1% in early Wednesday trading.
