04:55 AM EDT, 04/28/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed a preliminary investigation into 120,089 Tesla (TSLA) Model Y vehicles from 2023 "without a manufacturer action," the agency said Tuesday.
The NHTSA opened the investigation in 2023 after two reports of steering loss on the car models after the steering wheel was detached from the steering column while the vehicles were in motion, according to the NHTSA.
Over the course of the probe, no evidence was found that other vehicles of the same model and year have the same alleged defect apart from the two reported incidents, the agency said.
