NioCorp, Lockheed Martin Collaborate on Scandium-Based Defense Technology
Oct 23, 2025 7:13 AM

09:56 AM EDT, 10/23/2025 (MT Newswires) -- NioCorp Developments ( NB ) said Thursday that it is collaborating with Lockheed Martin ( LMT ) to support the development of scandium-based defense technology through the defense contractor's Skunk Works advanced development programs division.

The project, funded by the US Department of Defense, aims to produce prototype components made of aluminum-scandium alloys to enhance the performance and capabilities of next-generation fighter aircraft.

Funding for the effort is being provided by the Pentagon under a $10 million agreement through Title III of the Defense Production Act, which supports the creation of a domestic mine-to-master-alloy scandium supply chain via NioCorp's Elk Creek critical minerals project in southeast Nebraska, the company said.
