Nippon Steel Vice Chairman Traveling to US to Lobby for US Steel Acquisition

05:55 AM EDT, 05/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- A Nippon Steel negotiator is traveling to the US this week to push for the Japanese company's acquisition of US Steel (X), media outlets reported, citing a company spokesperson.

Bloomberg reported that Nippon Steel Vice Chairman Takahiro Mori is scheduled to meet with elected officials and company employees in Pittsburgh.

Both US President Joe Biden and his presumptive 2024 challenger Donald Trump oppose the deal.

US Steel and Nippon Steel did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
