09:53 AM EDT, 07/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Nokia ( NOK ) said Monday it will deploy a private 5G wireless network for Memphis Light, Gas and Water in Tennessee to support the utility provider's long-term grid modernization strategy.

The project marks the first full-scale standalone private 5G wireless network by a municipal utility in the US, Nokia ( NOK ) said.

The 5G network is expected to improve communications across electric, gas, and water services and enable critical applications such as automated meter reading, grid monitoring and fault detection, the company said.
