04:59 PM EDT, 06/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Norfolk Southern ( NSC ) is creating a "vent and burn" working group to help improve emergency response and safety procedures in the event of a railroad mishap like the February 2023 derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.

The formation of the workgroup follows Norfolk Southern's ( NSC ) recent settlement with the US Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency. The company will talk with various stakeholder groups over the next six months to determine its composition, subject to final court approval of the settlement.
