Norway's Equinor Acquires $2.5 Billion Stake in Denmark's Orsted

07:21 AM EDT, 10/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Equinor ( EQNR ) said Monday it has acquired 41.2 million shares or a 9.8% stake worth $2.5 billion in Orsted, making it the second largest investor in the offshore wind energy company after the Danish state.

The Norwegian state-controlled energy company said it supports Orsted's strategy and management, and is not seeking seats on its board.

Equinor ( EQNR ) said its stake "has been built over time," through market and block trades. The company said it plans to increase its stake to 10%, subject to regulatory approvals and foreign investment regulations.
