In a welcome move, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has announced that policyholders can now deposit their maturity claim documents at their nearest LIC office, irrespective of the servicing branch of the policy.
The insurer, on Thursday, stated in a press release that the facility is available on a trial basis with immediate effect till March 31, 2021. The service will be available across the country.
"LIC has allowed its 113 divisional offices, 2,048 branches, 1,526 satellite offices, and 74 customer zones to receive maturity claim documents from policyholders whose maturity payments are due, irrespective of the servicing branch of the policy,” it said, adding that the actual claim will be processed by the servicing branch only. “The documents will be digitally transferred through LIC's All India Network," ET reported.
The step was taken to provide ease of service to customers amid the pandemic, LIC said. The new facility is especially helpful if a policyholder is in one city and their policy documents are in another city. In this case, the documents can be deposited separately at two different locations. The press release said that policyholders could walk into any of the aforementioned offices and ask for an authorised officer for assistance in this regard.
LIC, which currently services over 29 crore policies across the nation, had also allowed policyholders to submit maturity claim related documents online, last year, at the start of the pandemic. All customers had to do was scan and submit the papers via email to the servicing branch.
