08:51 AM EDT, 04/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Nvidia's ( NVDA ) chip supplier SK Hynix said Wednesday it plans to build a $3.87 billion packaging fabrication and R&D facility for AI products in West Lafayette, Indiana.

By the second half of 2028, the new facility is expected to mass-produce high-bandwidth memory semiconductors which are the components of graphic processing units that train AI systems, the company said.

SK Hynix said it is collaborating with Purdue University on future R&D projects.

Separately, Nvidia ( NVDA ) and Indonesian telecommunications firm PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison plan to build a 3 trillion Indonesian rupiah ($188.9 million) artificial intelligence center in Central Java this year, Indonesian Communications Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said in a statement Wednesday.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) shares were up more than 1% in Thursday's premarket activity.
