06:52 AM EDT, 09/22/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Oklo ( OKLO ) said Monday it will break ground on its fast fission power plant in Idaho under a US Department of Energy program to speed development of nuclear reactors.
The plant, known as Aurora-INL, will be a sodium-cooled fast reactor using metal fuel, based on the Experimental Breeder Reactor II. The company was awarded fuel recovered from EBR-II in 2019 and has finalized two of four steps required for DOE authorization to fabricate its first core at the Aurora Fuel Fabrication Facility, Oklo ( OKLO ) said.
Last month, Oklo ( OKLO ) received two awards under the DOE's reactor pilot program, while its subsidiary Atomic Alchemy was granted one. Kiewit Nuclear Solutions, a subsidiary of Kiewit Corp., is the lead constructor, Oklo ( OKLO ) said.
