OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank Announce Plans for Five new AI Data Center Sites
Sep 24, 2025 3:58 AM

06:33 AM EDT, 09/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- OpenAI said Tuesday, it along with Oracle (ORCL) and SoftBank, is planning five new US AI data center sites under Stargate, its AI infrastructure platform.

The company said three sites will be in partnership with Oracle, while the other two will be with SoftBank.

OpenAI added that the combined capacity from these five new sites-along with its flagship site in Abilene, Texas, and ongoing projects with CoreWeave-brings Stargate to nearly 7 gigawatts of planned capacity and over $400 billion in investment over the next three years.

The company said that this puts it on a clear path to securing the full $500 billion, 10-gigawatt commitment it announced in January by the end of 2025, ahead of schedule.

OpenAI said it first announced the $500 billion commitment along with Oracle, and SoftBank in January at the White House alongside President Trump, as part of a broader push to spur investment in American AI infrastructure.

It added that it had entered into an agreement with Oracle during July to develop up to 4.5 gigawatts of additional Stargate capacity, which represents a partnership that exceeds $300 billion between the two companies over the next five years.

It further noted that the new Stargate sites being developed by Oracle will join its flagship Stargate campus in Abilene, Texas, which is already up and running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
