07:30 AM EDT, 07/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is reportedly developing a new approach to its artificial intelligence models under the project code-named Strawberry, Reuters reported Monday, citing a person familiar with the matter and internal documentation.
The project aims to improve the reasoning capabilities of OpenAI's models and is said to be a tightly kept secret even within OpenAI. Reuters said it is unclear when Strawberry will be unveiled to the public.
The internal document cited by Reuters shows plans for AI models autonomously navigating the internet. OpenAI reportedly creates, trains, and evaluates the models on "deep research" datasets. According to the report, OpenAI also plans to test the AI's ability to perform tasks done by software and machine learning engineers.
A spokesperson for OpenAI told Reuters that the company wants its "AI models to see and understand the world more like we do."
"Continuous research into new AI capabilities is a common practice in the industry, with a shared belief that these systems will improve in reasoning over time."
OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
