“Almost all the stores are open now barring a few isolated one. We have closed 40 stores already and if we find that the business is not coming back evenly across, we may take more action on that front,” Sandeep Kataria, CEO, Bata India said in an interview to CNBC-TV18.

Kataria said that the company has opened 15 new stores after unlock has started and is planning to open 30 more by the end of the year.

“We are not back to pre COVID levels yet. We are steadily moving towards that. We think that the festivities will give us the second flip. We are hoping that we will get very close to pre COVID numbers at the end of the festivities,” he said.

“Things are much better than they were three-four months ago, we are seeing demand steadily pick up. With the whole festive season around the corner, we are looking forward to recouping and getting back to much closer to normal,” he said.

Besides sportswear, there has also been an uptick in casual wear, ready-to-wear at home and washable collection, he said.
