Jun 2, 2025 9:10 AM

11:57 AM EDT, 06/02/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Pacific Biosciences of California ( PACB ) and Target ALS are collaborating for a global whole genome sequencing initiative, Target ALS said Monday.

The nonprofit said the project will apply PacBio's HiFi sequencing to over 6,000 genomes from people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and healthy controls to detect structural variants, repeat expansions and other genetic features that may underlie the disease.

Target ALS said all data will be openly shared through its data engine to eliminate barriers to access and allow researchers to uncover disease mechanisms and look for new pathways to treatment.
