01:14 PM EDT, 07/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- PepsiCo's ( PEP ) European division and Yara entered a long-term partnership to decarbonize the food value chain by providing farmers with low-carbon crop nutrients, the companies said Tuesday.
Yara will supply PepsiCo Europe with up to 165,000 tons of fertilizer annually, covering about 25% of PepsiCo's ( PEP ) crop fertilizer needs in Europe by 2030. The fertilizers will include low-carbon footprint options and standard premium nitrate-based mineral fertilizers, manufactured using a natural gas-based technology that has lower carbon footprint.
The partnership will span multiple countries, involving around 1,000 farms across the EU and the UK, initially focusing on potatoes and expanding to other crops like oats and corn, the companies said. The initiative will enhance nutrient use efficiency and boost yields, in addition to reduce the carbon footprint.
