11:15 AM EST, 12/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Petrobras (PBR) said Thursday that its Colombian unit and Ecopetrol ( EC ) have confirmed Colombia's "most significant" gas discovery ever via the Sirius-2 well.

The Sirius-2 well lies 77 kilometers off the northern coast of Colombia, and an assessment of its drilling results confirmed local volumes of over 6 trillion cubic feet of gas.

The Brazilian oil major said the discovery could "increase Colombia's current reserves by 200%."
