01:16 PM EDT, 04/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Petrobras (PBR) Chief Executive Jean Paul Prates is seeking to shore up support from Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to continue in his position but may leave the company if he is unable to do so, according to media reports Thursday.
Prates is seeking a meeting with Lula to seek his backing to continue heading the state-run company, but the president's press office was quoted as saying by Reuters it was not aware of any scheduled meeting.
Prates could be replaced by Aloizio Mercadante, head head of Brazilian state development bank BNDES, or Petrobras board member Bruno Moretti, Reuters reported, citing unnamed sources.
Petrobras did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
