05:55 AM EDT, 05/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Petrobras (PBR) said Tuesday that Jean Paul Prattes has offered to step down as the company's chief executive and as a board member.
The company said Prattes requested that the board "consider the early termination of its mandate as CEO of Petrobras in a negotiated manner."
Several news outlets reported Wednesday that Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had fired Prattes from the state-owned oil company due to a dispute over dividend payments.
In a separate statement, Petrobras said Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy has issued an official letter to appoint a new CEO after being informed of Prattes' request. According to the company, the ministry appointed Magda Maria de Regina Chambriard as its CEO and as a new director, subject to internal corporate governance procedures.
Chambriard is a former general director of Brazilian oil and gas regulator ANP, according to the statement.
