Petrobras Seeks Chinese Investment to Expand Brazil's Shipbuilding Industry
May 25, 2025 8:58 PM

11:23 AM EDT, 04/29/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Petrobras (PBR) President Magda Chambriard on Monday invited Chinese investors to visit Brazilian shipyards and explore opportunities for partnership in the oil and gas sector.

Chambriard and other officials met with Chinese officials, investors, and business leaders at the Brazilian Embassy in Beijing. The meeting included a presentation of Petrobras' operations, with a focus on the shipbuilding industry and opportunities to expand shipyards in Brazil, the company said.

"We understand that there are opportunities for Chinese companies to work in partnership with Brazilian shipyards, and we believe that the increase in our cooperation will bring benefits to our countries," Chambriard said.

Sergio Bacci, president of Petrobras subsidiary Transpetro, spoke about the revival of shipbuilding in Brazil's oil sector, noting plans to commission 25 ships by 2030. He emphasized the need for new commercial and technological partnerships.

"In line with the public policies of the Brazilian government to encourage shipbuilding in Brazil, we reinforce the invitation to all entrepreneurs to evaluate the opportunities we have in the sector," he said.
