Phillips 66 Indicted in Federal Court Over Illegal Wastewater Disposal
Nov 21, 2024 6:42 PM

01:05 PM EST, 11/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Phillips 66 (PSX) is facing charges in a federal court in California over allegation that it discharged pollutants into the Los Angeles County sewer system, the US District Attorney's office said Thursday.

The company has been indicted for allegedly violating the Clean Water Act by "discharging hundreds of thousands of gallons of industrial wastewater" into the sewer system from its Carson oil refinery, the US Attorney's Office for the Central District of California said.

Phillips 66 was also accused of failing to report the alleged violations to authorities. The arraignment is expected in the coming weeks.

If found guilty on all six counts, the company would be slapped with a statutory maximum sentence of five years' probation on each count and fines of up to $2.4 million.

The company did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
