03:35 PM EST, 12/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Police in Altoona, Pennsylvania, have arrested a "person of interest" carrying a gun similar to the weapon used in the shooting death of a UnitedHealthcare (UNH) executive last week, according to multiple media reports.
The 26-year-old man, who police identified as Luigi Mangione, was taken into custody while he was sitting at a local McDonald's (MCD) restaurant in central Pennsylvania city, reports said citing New York police commissioner Jessica Tisch.
The suspect is being held on gun charges after Altoona officers found a weapon and a silencer similar to the ones used in the fatal attack on Brian Thompson, the chief executive of UnitedHealth's ( UNH ) insurance unit, who was killed outside a Manhattan hotel on Dec. 4. He also had a fake I.D. with the same name as the person believed to have stayed at a New York hostel the night before the shooting, Tisch said.
