03:58 PM EST, 01/31/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Power Corporation of Canada's ( PWCDF ) Power Sustainable Energy Infrastructure unit and EDF Renewables North America said Friday afternoon their Desert Quartzite Solar+Storage Project became operational in December.
The 375-megawatt solar project, paired with a 150 MW energy storage system, supplies power to Clean Power Alliance under a 20-year agreement, the companies said.
Located in Riverside County, California, on federal land, the project stores solar energy in batteries during peak hours and releases it later to balance electricity demand. At full capacity, Desert Quartzite will power over 163,000 homes and prevent more than 669,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually, supporting California's climate goals.
