Power sector to grow faster than others; growing economy to drive demand: Power Minister RK Singh
Feb 8, 2021 12:20 AM

Power minister RK Singh on Monday said that the power sector will grow faster than other sectors as the growing economy will drive demand.

“The power sector will be growing faster. It will be growing faster because of 28 million consumers we added in the shortest timeframe ever in the world and all of them are now buying fans, heaters and that’s one reason for demand increase and plus our economy is growing,” Singh said in an interview with CNBC-TV18.

The power minister has pitched for the addition of conventional sources of power along with renewables.

“It (power) is growing and the growth is going to be plus 10 percent, it’s near 10.5 percent now, it will go up further,” said Singh.

“At the rate at which the power demand is growing, I think that we will need more capacity. Of course, we will need more renewable capacity and we will need more conventional capacity as well. For me, the priority is the availability of power,” he said.
