Aug 21 (Reuters) - The following are the top stories on

the New York Times business pages. Reuters has not verified

these stories and does not vouch for their accuracy.

- Alaska Airlines's acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines

cleared a major hurdle on Monday, after the airlines said

the U.S. Justice Department ended a review of the merger without

challenging it on antitrust grounds.

- Boeing ( BA ) said on Tuesday that it had paused test

flights of the 777-9, a large plane whose development had

already been delayed by years, after discovering problems with a

key part.

- The European Union said on Tuesday that it is proposing to

charge Tesla an additional tariff of 9% on its

vehicles, as part of its efforts to protect European producers

from unfair competition.

- A U.S. federal judge on Tuesday ruled that the Federal

Trade Commission lacked the authority to issue substantive rules

related to unfair methods of competition, including the

noncompete rule, which would have prohibited companies from

restricting their employees' ability to work for rivals.
