- Edgar Bronfman Jr. abandoned his pursuit of Paramount

on Monday, dropping his 11th-hour bid roughly a day

before the deadline to submit a final offer for the CBS and MTV

owner.

- Canada, following the lead of the United States and

European Union, said on Monday it will impose a 100% tariff on

imports of Chinese electric vehicles and a 25% tariff on Chinese

steel and aluminum.

- A trial that could determine whether the two largest

supermarket chains in the United States can merge opened on

Monday, pitting grocery giant Kroger ( KR ) against regulators

who argue that its takeover of Albertsons ( ACI ) would

eliminate competition at the expense of consumers and workers.

- Ride-hailing platform Uber ( UBER ) has been fined 290

million euros($323.90 million) in the Netherlands for sending

personal data of European taxi drivers to the U.s. in violation

of EU rules, Dutch data protection watchdog DPA said on Monday.
