02:59 PM EDT, 04/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Public Service Enterprise Group ( PEG ) unit PSEG Nuclear said Thursday it has notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of its plan to seek 20-year license renewals for its three nuclear plants in southern New Jersey.

The power plants include Salem Generating Station Units 1 and 2, and Hope Creek Generating Station, the company said. It expects to submit the extension application in Q2 of 2027.

"This early notification is intended to provide the NRC with time to ensure resource availability when the formal applications are submitted in 2027," the company said.

If approved, the license renewal applications for Salem Unit 1 and Unit 2 would be extended to 2056 and 2060 from 2036 and 2040, respectively, and Hope Creek station to 2066 from the current 2046 expiration, the firm added.
