01:05 PM EDT, 09/09/2025 (MT Newswires) -- In its Sept. 8 carload update, RBC analysts Walter Spracklin and James McGarragle write that CP Rail performed best this week due to higher Potash volumes. Volume was up 3.6% year over year for week 36.
CN however saw its volumes move lower (-2%) reflecting decreased Metals & Minerals RTMs.
Annacis Auto Terminal and Richmond Auto Terminal at the Port of Vancouver consolidated into a single, larger, Annacis Auto Terminal in late July. This has increased the terminal's annual auto import capacity by +36%, from 352,000 to 480,000 vehicles, the analysts said. The facility is primarily served by Southern Railway of British Columbia, which connects directly with CPKC and CN; and which Spracklin and McGarragle see as an incremental driver of volume growth longer-term for both Canadian rails.
