09:16 AM EDT, 09/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- CPKC has completed the first phase in a set of three testing stages for its high-horsepower hydrogen road locomotive, notes RBC.
CPKC's hydrogen locomotive completed its first coal haul testing in collaboration with Teck Resources (TECK-B.TO) as part of a multi-year pilot program focused on hydrogen fuel-cell powered coal trains, which RBC sees as a step forward in the company's commitment to sustainable rail transport.
"We continue to view this as a positive development from both an ESG and profitability standpoint - we note that diesel-powered locomotives represent the rail industry's most significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and that fuel comprised 14% of freight revenue at CPKC in 2023," RBC said.
