10:56 AM EDT, 05/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Redwire ( RDW ) said Wednesday it has secured a contract from the European Space Agency to develop a robotic arm prototype for the agency's Argonaut Lunar Lander.
The system, called the Manipulator for Argonaut Payload Needs and Unloading Support, will support surface logistics, including offloading, positioning and retrieval of cargo as well as positioning of the lander, the company said.
Redwire ( RDW ) will develop, test, and verify the functions of the system, with the potential for a follow-on contract.
The Argonaut Lunar Lander will enable Europe to transport and deploy 1,500 kg to 1,800 kg of cargo, infrastructure, and scientific instruments to the lunar surface, the company said.
Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
