11:04 AM EDT, 03/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- ReShape Lifesciences ( RSLS ) said Thursday it received a US patent for an intragastric balloon system for weight loss.

The system, with a capsule to be swallowed by patients, contains a balloon that can be expanded or contracted in the stomach to limit its size and diminish appetites, the company said. The balloon is designed to disintegrate over time.

The patent will provide commercial and intellectual property protections for the device through at least January 2031, ReShape said.
