06:38 AM EST, 11/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Rio Tinto (RIO) said Sunday it has signed an agreement with Australia's Calix to invest more than 35 million Australian dollars ($22.8 million) in support of construction of Calix's steel production demonstration plant in Western Australia.
If approved, the demonstration plant could help lower steel production carbon emissions, the company said.
The Rio Tinto investment is subject to project milestones and consists of in-kind as well as financial contributions, the company said.
Calix also has a A$44.9 million grant for the project, the company said.
