Rio Tinto Confirms Talks With Glencore for Potential Merger

05:31 PM EST, 01/08/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Rio Tinto (RIO) confirmed late Thursday it is engaging with Glencore in preliminary talks about a potential all-share merger of their businesses.

The company said there is no guarantee that an offer will be made.

Rio Tinto said it has until Feb. 5 to make a final decision.
