06:51 AM EDT, 10/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Rio Tinto (RIO) announced on Sunday that it has launched a trial of battery swap electric haul truck technology at the Oyu Tolgoi copper mine in Mongolia, in collaboration with China's State Power Investment Corporation Qiyuan.

The company stated that this marks its first use of battery-swappable electric haul trucks in surface mining operations.

The equipment will be tested through the end of 2026, Rio Tinto said.
