06:37 AM EST, 12/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Rio Tinto (RIO) said Wednesday that it has partnered with Swedish investment firm Vargas, Mitsubishi, and other international and local industry players to explore a low-carbon aluminum greenfield project in Kokkola, Finland.
The project aims to use Rio Tinto's aluminum smelting AP60 technology, which marks its first deployment outside of Quebec, Canada.
The partnership, known as Arctial, will begin with a feasibility study and environmental impact assessment.
