05:41 PM EDT, 03/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Rio Tinto (RIO) said late Tuesday that, together with the Queensland and Commonwealth Governments, it has entered a partnership to keep the Boyne aluminium smelter in Gladstone operational and competitive through at least 2040.
The deal includes 2 billion Australian dollars ($1.4 billion) government investment over 10 years, according to a statement.
Rio Tinto said the deal builds on its power purchase agreements to underwrite new renewable energy and storage in Queensland.
