Rivian Automotive's Delivery Vans Under Preliminary Probe Over Possible Seat Belt Failures
Sep 24, 2025 5:49 AM

08:23 AM EDT, 09/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Rivian Automotive ( RIVN ) electric delivery vans are under a preliminary evaluation by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigation over "potential failures" of the driver's front outboard seat belt anchorage system, the regulator said this week.

According to the regulator, an estimated 17,198 Rivian delivery vans produced between 2022 and 2023 are under scrutiny after the agency received six vehicle owner questionnaires reporting "multiple instances" in which the seat belt cable "frays, breaks, and/or unravels," leaving the occupants unrestrained in the event of a collision.

The investigation will focus on the integrity of the seat belt assembly, method of installation and potential design or manufacturing changes and deficiencies, the regulator said.

Rivian did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
