11:08 AM EDT, 10/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Rogers Communications ( RCIAF ) early Tuesday said it will become the exclusive English-language carrier of Discovery's lifestyle and factual content in Canada beginning on Jan. 1, 2025, after finalizing a new contract with its US-based parent company.
The new agreement with Warner Bros Discovery's ( WBD ) allows Rogers to distribute the namesake Discovery and Discovery ID channels in addition to content from the Cooking, OWN, MotorTrend, Discovery Science and Animal Planet channels either on-demand or through Citytv+ on Amazon's ( AMZN ) Prime streaming video service.
Rogers said its new deal reflects a decision by Bell Media to abandon efforts to prevent rival carriers from distributing Discovery content in Canada, including in June seeking an injunction in Ontario Superior Court that would have barred Rogers from carrying those channels.
Privately held Bell on Tuesday also said it has struck a deal extending its 2023 licensing agreement making it the exclusion carrier of Warners Bros Discovery's HBO and Max content "for the foreseeable future." The new contract also provides Warner Bros Discovery ( WBD ) with distribution rights for Bell content outside of Canada.
