02:07 PM EDT, 10/14/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Roku ( ROKU ) and its Florida subsidiary, Florida Roku, are facing a lawsuit from Florida Attorney General for allegedly collecting, processing, and selling personal data of Florida users, including minors, without proper consent, according to a Tuesday court filing.
The lawsuit claims Roku ( ROKU ) knowingly disregarded signs that users are children, including when they access "Kids and Family" content, install the "Kids Screensaver" or "Kids Theme Pack," or use child-focused apps. The lawsuit claims the company knows some of its users are children, but decided not to adopt industry-standard user profiles to identify which users are minors.
The complaint also alleges that Roku ( ROKU ) shares sensitive data, including geolocation, with third-party data brokers like Kochava, enabling advertisers to track and target users, including children.
Florida's Attorney General claims Roku ( ROKU ) violated the Florida Digital Bill of Rights and the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, and seeks up to $150,000 per violation involving children, plus injunctions to halt the company's data practices and enforce compliance with state privacy laws, according to the complaint.
The company didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
Shares of Roku ( ROKU ) were up 1.1% in recent trading.
