09:56 AM EDT, 09/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Royal Philips (PHG) said Tuesday it launched a 160cm US Food and Drug Administration-approved LumiGuide endovascular navigation wire, featuring its fiber optic realshape technology.

The new guidewire, first used by vascular surgeon Carlos Timaran, was used in a complex aortic aneurysm repair operation, marking the 1,000th patient treated with FORS technology, the company said.

The extended guidewire offers US clinicians broader catheter visualization and enhances the technology's application in complex procedures, Royal Philips said.

Royal Philips shares were up 1.4% in recent trading.
