RTX Pops as Pratt & Whitney Expands GTF Capacity, Collins Aerospace Enhances Offerings
Apr 8, 2025 7:51 AM

RTX Corp. ( RTX ) shares are trading sharply higher Tuesday after its Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney units disclosed several deals.

Pratt & Whitney: The unit reached an agreement with MTU Aero Engines to expand GTF overhaul capacity at MTU’s facilities.

This will support the rising demand for GTF MRO services, increasing MTU’s annual capacity to up to 600 shop visits across all GTF models, making it one of the largest service providers in the Pratt & Whitney GTF MRO network.

Apart from this, Pratt & Whitney and Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) disclosed an agreement to expand GTF overhaul capacity at Delta TechOps’ Atlanta facility over the next decade.

The facility’s annual capacity will increase by more than 30%, enabling it to overhaul up to 450 engines per year, making it one of the largest member facilities in the Pratt & Whitney GTF MRO network.

Additionally, Pratt & Whitney developed a new additive manufacturing repair for critical GTF engine components that reduces process time by over 60%.

Pratt & Whitney anticipates recovering $100 million worth of parts over the next five years through the implementation of these additive repairs.

Collins Aerospace: The units disclosed that it enhanced its SelfServ platform, integrating check-in and bag drop into user-friendly kiosks.

Paired with the SelfPass biometric solution, passengers can securely manage their journey, from check-in to boarding, with seamless biometric processing.

Additionally, Collins Aerospace is showcasing aftermarket seating concepts to upgrade Pinnacle main cabin seats.

These solutions offer three pathways to transform aging seats, improving speed to market, extending product life, and maximizing operator investments, leveraging a large global install base for efficient implementation.

Moreover, Collins Aerospace stated that it is showcasing enhancements to its Prime wheelchair seating solution at the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg, Germany.

Investors can gain exposure to the stock via iShares U.S. Aerospace & Defense ETF ( ITA ) and First Trust Exchange-Traded Fund First Trust Indxx Aerospace & Defense ETF .

Price Action: RTX shares are up 5.27% at $123.50 at the last check Tuesday.
