Sable Offshore California Pipeline System Reopening Challenged in State Lawsuit
Mar 24, 2026 2:39 AM

04:51 AM EDT, 03/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Sable Offshore's ( SOC ) recent reopening of a California pipeline system was challenged in a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Rob Bonta Monday.

Bonta said the lawsuit against the US Department of Energy is meant to halt it from restarting Sable's pipeline network linking the Santa Ynez offshore platform to California refineries.

The pipeline system, shut down after a 2015 oil spill, was relaunched earlier this month by an executive order from the White House.

The lawsuit alleges that the reopening was unlawful and a breach of the constitution.

"Instead of following the law, the Trump administration and an increasingly desperate Sable are attempting to ride roughshod over state authority and judicial independence -- all so that Sable can profit," Bonta said.

The company didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
