Building a bridge between wellness and clinical care, Samsung and Xealth will create a health ecosystem that helps clinicians and patients leverage wearable devices to help inform care

SEOUL, South Korea & SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that it has acquired Xealth, the leading digital health platform that brings diverse digital tools and care programs that benefit patients and providers. The combined entity will help advance Samsung’s vision for connected care, taking a seamless and holistic approach to preventative care to as many people as possible.

Originally announced in July, Samsung’s acquisition of Xealth will help unify fragmented health information, making it more accessible to clinicians and empowering individuals in controlling their own health. Millions of people use wearable technology daily to keep track of their wellness journey, and that data is typically separate from the health records maintained by clinicians and health systems, sometimes leading to missed insights and delayed care.

Combining Samsung’s advanced wearable technology and Xealth’s digital health platform will unite this information for the clinician, linking home health monitoring and clinical decision-making to better support the provider-patient relationship – even when outside the facility. Connecting wearables into clinician workflows at this scale can benefit clinical trials, preventative care, and health monitoring efforts.

“Samsung’s leadership in innovative technologies combined with Xealth’s deep expertise and extensive healthcare network will deliver seamless connected care at scale,” said Dr. Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team, Mobile eXperience Business, at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung and the Xealth team will engage, learn, and support health systems, consumers and digital health partners in creating a healthcare ecosystem that aims to improve the health of everyone.”

Samsung is committed to making digital health tools accessible to all through relentless technology innovation and a boundless device ecosystem. Its diverse product portfolio helps bring better context and personalization around healthcare. Combining Samsung with Xealth will provide a seamless experience across wellness and medical care and bring hyper-personalized, preventative care.

“Our mission from day one has been to strengthen the bond between medical care teams and their patients through familiar technologies,” said Mike McSherry, CEO and co-founder of Xealth. “That driving force is supported and propelled through Samsung in a way that will bring truly connected care and add fresh context to the patient experience in a way not possible before. Together with Samsung and our network of healthcare leaders, we will design a bridge between home health monitoring and clinical decision-making, with provider workflows and the patient-provider relationship at the core. We are excited to join forces with Samsung.”

Samsung’s acquisition of Xealth has completed all customary closing conditions, including required regulatory approvals. Xealth will continue operations under its existing brand and its leadership team remains in place.

Xealth, spun out of Providence health system, combines multiple digital health solutions into a single user interface and platform, giving healthcare providers a more complete picture of their patients, and enabling real-time monitoring, continuous engagement and smarter decision making. Xealth acts as an orchestration layer that gives health systems control over how they manage, filter, and use data. The company currently has a network of more than 500 U.S. hospitals, including Advocate Health and Banner Health, and more than 70 digital health solution partners, which will gain access to Samsung’s platform and enhance the connected care platform.
