SBI net-banking account: Last day to link your mobile numbers to avoid deactivation
Nov 30, 2018 5:26 AM

Today is the last day for State Bank of India’s (SBI) customers to register their mobile numbers to their internet banking accounts.

Country’s biggest lender recently announced that it's going to block the net-banking accounts that are not linked with the customer’s mobile number.

“As per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) advisory, it's mandatory to register your mobile number to avail internet banking services. Please register your mobile number by November 30, 2018, failing which your internet banking access may be deactivated or blocked with effect from December 1, 2018," the bank said in a notice on its website.

According to RBI July 6, 2017 circular, banks must have registered mobile numbers of their customers for SMS alerts for electronic banking transactions such as internet and mobile banking.

Here is how you can link the mobile number to your account:

The registration of the mobile phone number can be done either through visiting the bank’s branch, online mode or via ATM. Customers using ATM for the process can do it by swiping their card and clicking on the registration option on the ATM machine.

The user should then provide his PIN followed by the option for mobile number registration. Following this, mobile number should be provided by customer selecting on the "Correct" option.

After this is done, a message will appear on the screen acknowledging the completion of the process. But the registration is yet to be finished.

The customer will get a call from the bank within 72 hours besides a reference number that will send to the phone via SMS. Once these details are verified, the process will be completed.

Users can also register by logging in to the banks portal, i.e. www.onlinesbi.com and click on "My Accounts” section.

This will direct to the “Profile-Personal Details-Change Mobile No." option. The user should select this option and after entering the next page.

Select on the account number and the mobile number and click on submit.

The process after completion will show the user the last two digits of the mobile phone number.

Other than these, customers can do the registration process by visiting a SBI branch and submitting a letter of request.
