08:31 AM EST, 02/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- A Bank of Canada speech will take place after the market close on Thursday, noted Scotiabank.
BoC Governor Tiff Macklem will issue a speech titled "Future Challenges for Monetary Policy in the Americas" at 5 p.m. ET, pointing out the bank.
The governor was to have attended the BIS conference in Mexico in person but canceled that earlier this week and will now just issue his prepared speech on the BoC's website. There will be no media lock-up or question-and-answer session, stated Scotiabank.
The bank will watch closely what the governor has to say about the heightened trade uncertainty. Scotiabank thinks that he may lean toward saying the damage has been done regardless of whether United States trade tariffs actually do arrive or not against Canada but with mixed effects on the supply side (via reduced investment) and demand (exports).
