03:29 PM EDT, 10/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were rising late Tuesday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) increasing 0.5% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) up 0.2%.

Redbook US same-store sales rose 5.6% from a year earlier in the week ended Oct. 12, greater than the 5.4% increase in the previous week.

In corporate news, Honda ( HMC ) unit American Honda said Tuesday it is recalling about 720,000 vehicles in the US for a free inspection of fuel pumps and to replace any defective parts identified during the process. Honda ( HMC ) shares fell 3.3%.
