11:46 AM EST, 12/24/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were rising Tuesday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) up 0.3% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) climbing 1.6%.

Redbook US same-store sales accelerated by 5.9% from a year earlier in the week ended Dec. 21 from a 4.8% year-over-year increase in the previous week.

In corporate news, American Airlines ( AAL ) experienced a technical issue on Tuesday that briefly affected its flight operations during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year. The airline told MT Newswires that its flights were briefly affected this morning by a vendor technology issue, which has been resolved, and that flights have resumed. American Airlines ( AAL ) shares were down 0.6%.
