01:18 PM EDT, 03/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed Tuesday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) increasing 0.5% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) shedding 0.6%.
In corporate news, United Airlines (UAL) said Tuesday that it plans to add over 250 aircraft over the next two years. The airline said it expects to take delivery of the new aircraft by April 2028. Separately, United Chief Executive Scott Kirby said in an interview with Bloomberg TV Tuesday that ticket prices may have to increase by 20% if fuel prices stay at current levels. United shares were down 1.7%.
